My Story

Early Life and Education

Born in 1988 into an Islamic family of 14 siblings in Rhamu, Mandera County, Jimal's early years were marked by his family's relocation to Huruma Estate in Nairobi when he was just four years old. His educational journey commenced at Valley Bridge Primary School, where he began to build the foundation for his future. He attended Ruaraka High School, later transferring to Kajiado High School, then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management at East Africa University. Despite his parents' aspirations for him to become a pilot, Jimal chose the dynamic world of matatus — beginning as a conductor (Makanga) for four years before transitioning to driver, amassing invaluable experience along the way.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

In 2013, when the Kenyan government mandated all public transport vehicles to register under a Sacco, Jimal seized the opportunity. He founded "Telaviv Sacco," operating along South C in Nairobi. His charisma and rapport with people led to his election as Nairobi County Matatu Chairman — a position he held for five years — and his charismatic leadership revolutionised the matatu industry in Nairobi.

Saccos and Matatu Ownership

Jimal's entrepreneurial spirit extends far beyond Telaviv Sacco. He now owns five Saccos across Kenya's public transport sector: Arbab Ventures, Emaar City Bus, Rasasi Travellers, Express Prestige, and Telaviv Travelers Ltd — making him the owner of the highest number of matatus in Kenya, totalling an astounding 164 vehicles.

Social Media Presence

Outside the boardrooms and business ventures, Jimal maintains a significant digital presence — over two million followers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook combined. This influence showcases not only his entrepreneurial success but also his ability to connect with a diverse, wide-ranging audience.

Personal Life

Beyond the demands of his business ventures and philanthropic efforts, Jimal has been blessed with five children. His commitment to family reflects his ability to balance the rigors of a global career with his role as a devoted husband and father.

Financial Innovation

Identifying the difficulty faced by transport sector workers in securing fair credit, Jimal founded Huduma Credit Ltd in 2021. Under his leadership as Chairman, Huduma Credit has become a lifeline for those in public transport and beyond, offering logbook loans, asset financing, and Electric Bike Financing — empowering individuals with accessible credit and fair repayment terms.

Venturing into Online Gaming

In September 2022, Jimal assumed the role of Chairman of Betgr8 Kenya — an online gaming platform offering virtual sports, sports betting, and casino games. His strategic guidance steered Betgr8 toward growth and profitability in the competitive world of online gaming. Betgr8 now operates in 16 African countries.

In March 2023, Jimal founded the Jimal Foundation, committed to environmental sustainability and social uplift. The foundation has strategically placed 5,000 bins across South C, Kileleshwa, and Nairobi CBD; planted 1,000,000 trees across Kenya as part of the Go-Green movement; sponsored the Huruma Street Football Tournament; and funded school fees for 22 children from humble backgrounds at both primary and university level.
